What is a Dental Crown?
Dental crown is a protective cover that goes on top of your whole tooth, it basically acts as a helmet for your teeth. The whole purpose of a dental crown is to protect the underlying tooth it is covering. The tooth itself may have had a large dental filling, broken or weak, where the dentist will suggest a dental crown to preserve it.

Dental Crown Procedure
To be able to cover your tooth with dental crowns Sydney, the dentist will need to prepare your tooth by removing an outer layer surface of the tooth. By doing so, the removed thickness layer will be replaced by the same thickness of the dental crown and providing the same bite and function.
To make a porcelain fused metal (PFM) crown or a gold crown, our crown dentist Sydney at North Sydney Dentistry will take a mould of your tooth and send it to a dental laboratory technician who will make the crown. This procedure will take 2 visits 1-2 weeks apart, where the patient will receive a temporary crown for aesthetic purposes until their permanent crown comes back.
For our one visit crowns, otherwise known as our CEREC crowns, our dentists at North Sydney Dentistry will be able to scan your prepared tooth and be milled and processed at our surgery. There will be a 45 min to 1 hour wait during this procedure, where the patient is free to wait in the waiting area or go to the shops and come back.
Once the tooth crown has been cemented on, the patient is required to wait for an hour before allowing to eat. The dental crown will then be able to function as a normal tooth, where caring and the functionality of the crown is the same as your natural teeth.
As for implant crowns, depending on your circumstances the dentist will either recommend you a CEREC crown or a laboratory crown. The process for an implant crown is similar to a normal crown, where instead of cementing it onto your natural tooth. It will be screwed onto your dental implant.
So depending if it is a CEREC or a lab made crown, the number of visits will differ.
